策展人、独立策展人、艺术评论人、的｜艺术中心创始人。工作生活于北京、首尔。就学于中央美术学院美术史系，曾任杂志主编、多家媒体专栏作者，瑞士文化基金会访问策展人、韩国国立现当代美术馆访问研究员、红砖美术馆艺术总监等。曾受邀在北大、首师大、北工大，韩国的弘益大学、中央大学、综合艺术大学、梨花女子大学，德国海德堡大学，立陶宛维尔纽斯艺术学院等多家国内外大学举办学术讲座、交流。也曾受邀为多个国内外艺术节或艺术项目评委。2018年获国际美术馆联盟（CIMAM）与美国盖蒂基金会奖金，并成为 CIMAM 会员（全球唯一现当代艺术领域专家网络）。2019年再次获得美国盖蒂基金会奖助金参加纽约亚洲协会美术馆的国际艺术高峰论坛。2006年至今，于国内外策划多个具有社会现实针对性的主题展览，持续关注当代艺术、艺术家与其社会语境之间的互动关系。近年来也关注亚洲内部非营利机构的实践。
Xia Yanguo is an independent curator, art critic and founder of de Art Center (nonprofit) based in Beijing and Seoul. Graduated from the department of Art history at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. He was a magazine chief editor, columnist for several art and fashion media, first visiting curator at Pro Helvetia, visiting research at National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, special observer to Documenta, and art director at Red Brick Art Museum. He has been invited to give academic lectures and hold dialogues at a number of universities in China and abroad, like Beijing University, Capital Normal University, Beijing University of Technology, Hongik University, Chung-Ang University, and Korea National University of Arts in Korea, Heideberg University in Germany, etc.
In 2018, he was awarded the prize of the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) and the Getty Foundation, and became a member of CIMAM – the only global network of modern and contemporary art museum experts in the field. In 2019, he was invited by Asia Society & Museum and got travel grant provided by Getty Foundation to join an international museum summit.
Since 2006, he has planned and curated a series of exhibitions of realistic significance. He closely follows the interaction between contemporary art and its social context, identifies and does research on local artists. In the past several years, he has also shown growing interest and made several successful attempts to review and and represent historical documents in Asia, promote the communication and exchange between contemporary art in Asia and the international art world, as well as discuss the role of non-profit organizations in China. He is mainly interested in the diverging practices of artists and the rapidly changing ecology of the art world. As a curator who are sensitive to new trends and close to young generation of artists, and through curating exhibitions with a strong focus and a sense of problematics, he aims to facilitate interactions between art, audience and broader social-political contexts in the age of biopolitics.
