邱志杰 QIU Zhijie

邱志杰,1969年生于福建漳州,1992年毕业于中国美术学院版画专业。他是当代最具创造力的艺术家之一,也是90年代颇具声望的前卫艺术领袖。现担任中央美术学院实验艺术学院院长及教授、中国美术学院跨媒体艺术学院教授。现工作生活于杭州和北京。

邱志杰的创作活动涉及书法、水墨绘画、摄影、录像、装置、剧场等多种方式。他代表了一种沟通中国文人传统与当代艺术、沟通社会关怀和艺术的个人解放力量的崭新尝试。

邱志杰曾出版《总体艺术论》、《影像与后现代》、《给他一个面具》、《自由的有限性》、《重要的是现场》、《摄影之后的摄影》等艺术理论著作。主要作品集有《万物有灵》、《邱志杰:无知者的破冰史》、《时间的形状:邱志杰的光书法摄影》、《莫愁:邱志杰近作》、《记忆考古》等。

他作为策展人曾经参与策划:中国首个影像艺术展 “现象与影像”(杭州,1996);1999-2005年期间具有里程碑意义的地下展览 “后感性” 系列;第9届上海双年展(2012);第57届威尼斯双年展中国馆(2017)等。

2012年,邱志杰因《南京长江大桥计划》获得纽约古根海姆美术馆Hugo Boss奖提名。2009年,他获得艺术中国“年度艺术家”奖项,2016年,他再次被提名。

他的作品被各大国际和国内美术馆收藏,其中包括纽约古根海姆美术馆、大都会美术馆、路易威登基金会、迪奥基金会、瑞士尤伦斯基金会、新柏林艺术中心、澳大利亚悉尼白兔美术馆。

主要个展包括:“文字生涯”(金泽21世纪美术馆,金泽,2018);“邱注上元灯彩图”(民生美术馆,北京,2018);“不羁之旅”(凡阿比美术馆,埃因霍芬,2017);“邱注上元灯彩计划”(中国美术学院美术馆,杭州,2015);“独角兽和龙”(奎利尼斯坦帕里亚美术馆,威尼斯,2013);“偶像的黄昏:南京长江大桥自杀现象干预计划之四”(世界文化宫,柏林,2009);“破冰:南京长江大桥之三”(UCCA尤伦斯当代艺术中心,北京,2009)等。

近期群展包括:“1989后的艺术与中国:世界剧场”(古根海姆博物馆,纽约,2017-2018);“本土:变革中的中国艺术家”(路易威登基金会,巴黎,2016)等。 他曾参与哥德堡双年展(2013);第48届威尼斯双年展中国馆(2013);横滨三年展(2005);圣保罗双年展(20022014)等。

Qiu Zhijie was born in Fujian Province, China, in 1969. He graduated from the Printmaking Department at China Academy of Art in 1992. He is one of the most innovative Chinese contemporary artists and a prestigious avant-garde art leader of the 1990s. He is currently a professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Dean of School of Experimental Art of CAFA. He is also a professor at the School of Inter-media Art of China Academy of Art, and supervisor of master and doctoral students. He works and lives in Hangzhou and Beijing.

As an artist, Qiu Zhijie is known for his calligraphy and ink painting, photography, video, installation and performance works. His art is representational of a new kind of experimental communication between the Chinese literati tradition and contemporary art, social participation and the power of self-liberation of art.  

As an art writer, Qiu Zhijie published several books include: The Image and Post Modernism (2002), Give Me a Mask (2003), The Limit of Freedom (2003), The Photography after Photography (2004), On Total Art (2012). Catalogs of his work include: Breaking Through the Ice (2009), The Shape of Time (2007), Archeology of Memory (2006), etc.

He was also the curator of the first video art exhibition in China in 1996, and curated a series of Post-sense Sensibility exhibitions during 1999 and 2005 promoting the young generation of Chinese artists. In 2012 he was the chief curator of the 9th Shanghai Biennale Reactivation, in 2017 he is the chief curator of the Chinese Pavilion of the 57th Venice Biennale.

He was shortlisted for the Hugo Boss Prize administered by the Guggenheim Foundation due to his work of The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge Project. He was awarded Artist of the Year of the Award of Art China in 2009, and was nominated for the same award in 2016.

His works are collected by major museums and institutions around the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Foundation by Christian Dior, Ullens Foundation, Neuer Berliner Kunstrerein, and the White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney.

His major solo exhibitions include: Living Writing, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2018; Qiu’s Notes on the Colorful Lantern Scroll, Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing, 2018; Journey without Arrivals, Van Abbe Musuem, Eindhoven, 2017; The Unicorn and The Dragon, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice, 2013; Twilight of the Idols, Haus of World Culture, Berlin, 2009; Breaking Through The Ice, Ullens Contemporary Art Center, Beijing, 2009. The recent group exhibitions include: Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World, Guggenheim, New York, 2018; BenTu des artistes chinois dans la turbulence des mutations, LV foundation, Paris, 2016. He ever participated in: Göteborg Biennale 2013; Venice Biennial 2009, 2015; International Triennial of Contemporary Art, Yokohama, 2005; São Paulo Biennial, 2002, 2014.
